This project captures the experiences and perspectives of 19 Oregon-area journalists who covered the mass shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. Its intent is to contribute to the national conversation about mass shootings.

At our Storytelling with Data at Build-a-Thon, interdisciplinary teams were recruited within the community to produce data-driven stories inspired by themes around some of the biggest issues facing Portland and Oregon. Each team was comprised of journalists, developers, designers, subject matter experts and students.
Front 50 marked the Agora Journalism Center’s inaugural gathering, serving as a foundational event to listen, learn, and establish our direction. We convened 50 community leaders, journalists, technologists, philanthropists, and civic innovators from across Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. Our objective was not to provide definitive answers, but to identify the most pressing questions.
