Reporting Roseburg Contributes to the National Conversation About Mass Shootings

Led by 2016-17 Agora Faculty Fellow Lori Shontz and Nicole Dahmen, Reporting Roseburg captures the experiences and perspectives of 19 Oregon-area journalists who covered the mass shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. Its intent is to contribute to the national conversation about mass shootings through examining a vital aspect that has been largely missing: the experiences of the journalists who cover the story, both the breaking news and the long-term response.

The interviews in this project serves as an educational resource for journalism schools and professional newsrooms that can spark important conversations about how the U.S. media cover mass shootings and other tragedies.
